The original author of these essays was Ingeborg Franke von Wangenheim.

After discussing possible topics or themes, we decided our first play’s subject should be “The Employee.” From here, Wangenheim set himself the task of outlining a general story, which he was able to do in a very short time. He suggested that we dive into a traditional industry that has become one of the most modernized today: shoe manufacturing.

This appealed to us. The craft of making shoes is an old one — and yet, the work is very different in today’s modern mass-production factories from what it was in earlier times.
