Shown as part of the 16th annual Arab Film Festival Berlin, this is a fine documentary tribute to the Morroccan-Belgian filmmaker’s family — including her devout and 'difficult' Muslim mom.
I wanted to share this on my FaceBook page and it was censored. This is an important story, right now, for the time we are in. I will try another way to share.
Thank you, Pam! Yes, I feel like I've been trying to scale this "emerging" art/literary/cultural barrier between Germany/EU and the US/UK for some years, now.... Part of the struggle -- not just mine -- is drawing people's attention to this new "Wall in the Mind" -- a term used by today's Germans, referring to the surviving (class-issue) remnants of their old Cold War barrier.... More on this communications challenge, below.
Seems like the platforms are constantly changing the game, either to censor or just to make more money for themselves. One case in point is US singer/songwriter Carsie Blanton (for audiences who "wanna see a socialist songwriter yell at rich people -- in a fun way"). One (or both) of the platforms, Instagram or FB, kept Carsie Blanton from sharing US tour dates with her fans - including an antiwar fundraiser in Mass - insisting that she pay them for it.... I captured a couple of images of her tour dates and will try to share them in my Substack Notes....
Beautiful review
Thanks, Loukia. Means a lot to me.
